The increasing mental health problems and alarming number of suicide cases of residents has led FAIMA to set up a National Mental Health Task Force. The Association has also requested Mansukh Mandaviya to take effective and corrective measures for these issues. 

FAIMA to set up National Mental Health Task Force for medicos with mental disorders

FAIMA (Federation Of All India Medical Association) has decided to establish a National Mental Health Task force to fight the rising problem of mental health disorders and alarming number of suicide cases among medicos. The FAIMA National Mental Health Task Force is a voluntary initiative for counselling of doctors. The task force will have psychologist, psychiatrist and resident doctors leader to provide mental support to the doctors dealing with mental disorders.

The Association has also written to the union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya regarding this issue.

"We all know doctors are overworked, overburdened with hectic duty schedules, mental load, long duty hours without break, leading to loneliness, depression leading to an end of brilliant minds of medical field of the nation. We would like to tell that life which we are losing is not a life of just one doctor, one individual, it's a life of our own junios, seniors, colleague and as a fraternity we should stay united and bring a solution to the growing concern and issues amongst us," reads FAIMA's letter.

The Association has requested all students to contact representative if going through any kind of mental issues including anxiety and depression. FAIMA has also suggested the following points to government:

  • Duty hours of the postgraduate students should be fixed and there should be a strict compliance of the duty hours.
  • Provision of Mental Wellness Centre in every Institution of the country so that the concernced students shall reach them without any hesitation.
  • Dedicated helpline number with dedicated Psychiatrist in every Institution of the country.
