Gandhi Medical College medicos protest after 10 MBBS students suspended for 'ragging'

Reportedly, the batchmates of the 10 suspended MBBS students of Gandhi Medical College students staged a protest at the campus on Tuesday.

As per the report of Indian Express, the protesting students have alleged that due procedures were not followed before the disciplinary action and demanded revocation of the same.

The students are in shock over the college's decision. The anti-ragging committee enquired into the incident and found five students from the 2021 batch and five from the 2022 batch involved in ragging.

The first-year students, who were ragged, reportedly reached out to the University Grants Commission through its anti-ragging portal.

As per the freshers, they were called into the seniors' rooms in two different batches - one with 10 students and another with 20 students.

Dr K Ramesh Reddy, the Director of Medical Education (DME) in Telangana confirmed that the freshers' complaints had indicated acts of ragging in their letter to UGC. He condemned the incident as a severe violation of human rights. He further stated that there was no possibility of the suspension being revoked, as the freshers had identified the 10 seniors responsible for the incident during the probe. The seniors themselves admitted to their involvement in the ragging episode, he said, as reported by Times Now News.
