GMC Kollam gets nod for four PG medical seats
The National Medical Commission has granted permission for four postgraduate seats at GMC Kollam.
Kerala health minister Veena George has confirmed that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has sanctioned four postgraduate seats at Government Medical College (GMC), Kollam, for the first time.
Two seats each have been sanctioned for Community Medicine and Pathology and with starting of postgraduate courses in these two disciplines, the college is expected to enter a new phase in patient care, teaching and research. “It is a matter of pride that the PG courses could be started within five years of the establishment of the medical college,” said the Minister.
"The new seats in Community Medicine would help strengthen treatment, public health activities and research while the Pathology department was important when it came to diagnosis," said Ms George.
“This is also the result of the development works done by the government at the college despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The government is trying to get more PG seats and steps will be taken to start these courses as soon as possible,” she added.
The health minister visited the medical college recently and directed the concerned authorities to expedite the follow-up steps required for land acquisition. Also, measures have been taken to commence a nursing college. The first MBBS batch has successfully completed the course with good percentages and started house surgency, as reported by The Hindu.
GMC Kollam to hire Junior Residents on contract basis
The medical college is conducting walk-in interviews today, July 4 and on July 5 for the selection of Junior Residents on a contract basis. The candidates who have already submitted the application for the post through email id can participate in the interview. The remuneration would be INR 45,000 per month.
