GMC's interns in Himachal Pradesh protest against walk-in-interviews
Himachal Pradesh's medical interns from government medical colleges are protesting against the walk-in-interview.
Himachal Pradesh government has scheduled the walk-in-interview for MBBS posts on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, and the medical interns passing out of government medical colleges (GMCs) are opposing these walk-in-interviews.
As per these interns, usually, notifications for interviews are posted on the government sites but this time it did not happen. Also, currently, there are 81 MBBS posts left in the state and due to the pandemic situation, the medical interns in GMCs would be able to complete their MBBS degrees with a delay of five months. It means that these interns would be kept out of interviews due to delays in completion of the course and doctors pursuing MBBS from abroad will get preference as they will complete their degrees earlier.
As per reports, the interns are saying that the situation is such that only doctors who are doing MBBS from abroad will be eligible to give an interview on Tuesday and there will be no jobs left for interns doing MBBS from the GMCs of Himachal Pradesh. The interns are demanding that either these interviews must be postponed and conducted after they complete their MBBS degrees or these interns should also be allowed to participate in the interviews.
The interns have said that if their demands will not be accepted, they are only left with the option to call for a strike. They have also raised a question on the management of the state government. When there are already fewer government posts available for MBBS posts, why the government is giving priority to MBBS graduates from abroad rather than on a merit basis.
These interns are from Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda in Kangra, Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla, and Dr Y S Parmar Government Medical College Nahan in Sirmaur district.
