For medicos to be better acquainted with rural health problems, the Goa Medical College and Hospital launched two programmes on Monday -District Residency Program and Family Adoption Program.

Goa health minister Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane's tweet reads, "Launched the “District Residency Program” & Family Adoption Program". A proud feeling to have inaugurated both these National Medical Commission-mandated programs. Incidentally, these Programs were mentioned by Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi in #MannKiBaat address last month."

"These programs will enrich medical education in the country. We've been saying for a long time "taking healthcare to the doorstep of the people" it is a phrase that truly applies here, reaching out to the people and ensuring they have access to quality healthcare services," he said in another tweet.

As per the TOI report, the Family Adoption Programme will link each MBBS student with up to five families in rural Goa. They will acquaint themselves with the health problems of family members, chart their medical course and facilitate access to healthcare services. They will provide referrals to other healthcare facilities when needed and camps will also be held for the benefit of the rural poor in the adopted village of Bambolim.

Under the District Residency Programme (DRP), second-year resident doctors will be exposed to the district health system. Students will be trained in diverse settings close to the community.
