Haryana MBBS interns are on strike to demand increased stipend, fixed duty hour

Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College’s MBBS interns are sitting on strike. Their major demands are - stipend increments, fixed resident doctors' duty hours, and basic facilities for patients like medicines etc.
The medicos said in a letter to the Director of the Medical Education and Research Department in Haryana, “The stipend received by MBBS students during internship in the state was increased to INR 17,000 in the year 2018. There has been no increase in internship stipend for the last six years whereas, in medical colleges under the Central Government, the stipend has been increased to INR 30,070. Our demand is that our stipend should also be increased to INR 30,070. The incentives given to doctors have not been increased since 2009. Our demand is that the incentives given to the doctors should be increased.”
Another demand is regarding the duty hours of doctors which is not fixed and it is 24X7. The interns are demanding to fix the working hours of the interns. They also demanding to strengthen the infrastructure of the medical college. Due to the lack of basic facilities like medicines, lab tests etc. in the hospital, the public has to face a lot of problems. Our demand is this should be resolved as soon as possible, added the interns.
Mewat allowance has been reduced and Mewat native employees are not given Mewat Allowance. There is a demand from our government that the Mewat allowance should be restored.
