Hyderabad: NMC turns down proposal to establish GMC at Kothagudem
NMC has denied permission to the proposal for establishing Government Medical College at Kothagudem citing gross deficiencies.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has turned down the proposal to set up Government Medical College at Kothagudem with 150 medical seats due to gross deficiencies.
As per the TOI report, NMC found that there was an 88.8% deficiency in faculty apart from a 69.7% deficiency in resident doctors. The college's building was also found to be under construction, and there were no library, lecture theatres, laboratories, student hostels and staff quarters. Laboratory facilities in the anatomy, anatomy and biochemistry departments were also found missing along with other basic furniture and audio-visual equipment.
Also, the hospital had only 233 beds against the requirement of 330 beds and there was no hostel facility for students, residents and nurses.
NMC has asked the college to rectify these issues by June 23, if they want permission.
NMC recently cancelled medical admissions in Telangana
The NMC's disapproval of Government Medical College at Kothagudem came at a time when it recently cancelled admissions in three private medical colleges in Telangana after conducting a surprise inspection of the colleges. Two of the colleges have approached Telangana HC. The PG students whose admissions have been cancelled are demanding seats in other medical colleges in the state.
NMC has also released clarification regarding the eligibility of the final year PG students (2019-20 session) without completing the 'Online Course in Research Methods' for appearing in the final PG examination 2022 of PG Programmes.
The notification reads, "Students who have not completed the course can be allowed to appear in the final PG exams but such students need to complete the course within six months for which Dean will facilitate in registration of the course and the result of such students may be declared after completion of the Online Course in Research Methods."
