IMA writes to Yogi Adityanath over pending recognition of three medical colleges
Over 300 graduates from three colleges are stranded as they are unable to get state medical council registration.
The Indian Medical Association has requested Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath’s intervention as recognition of three medical colleges from the state is pending. Hundreds of medical students from these three colleges are stranded as they are unable to get state medical council registration.
The three medical colleges are Government Allopathic Medical College in Banda, Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital in Azamgarh, and Government Medical College in Saharanpur. There are over 300 seats in these three state-run colleges. Registration is mandatory for all medical graduates with State Medical Faculty (SMF), the representative body of the national medical commission (NMC) is pending.
IMA in its letter sent to UP CM regarding the pending recognition of medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh has expressed serious concerns about incautious working at the National Medical Commission.
The letter states that the three medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, from which many students pursued their MBBS course, namely, Government Allopathic Medical College at Banda, Government Medical College at Azamgarh, and Government Medical College at Saharanpur, are unable to get recognition from National Medical Commission.
“This has left hundreds of medical students, who completed their M.B.B.S., stranded as they are unable to get state medical council registration,” reads the letter.
Registration with the state medical council is the basic necessity for getting licenses to practice or even for further education.
The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) decision to grant permission to medical colleges solely on the basis of an affidavit has created today's situation as colleges are still on wait for recognition from MAR Board in NMC.
It writes that it id is an example of absolute incautious and careless functioning. Indian Medical Association in the best interests of medical education and student’s requests for immediate intervention for better functioning at the National Medical Commission.
On the other hand, the Office of Director-General Medical Education (DGME) has received a letter from the NMC regarding the pending recognition of colleges and is working on it.
