Is it better to do MBBS in India or Abroad?

Most Indian medical aspirants choose to pursue MBBS in India as a large section of the aspirants are not aware of studying options of doing MBBS from abroad. 

In India, the students face extraordinary challenges to get admission to government medical colleges as there are limited government-funded medical colleges. The students face tough competition to get admission to these colleges.

It is relatively easier to get admission to

MBBS in foreign countries and they also provide better infrastructure and affordable fee structure.

The Indian medical colleges are limited in numbers and the number of students that appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is growing every year. Last year, more than 13 lakh medical students appeared for the exams. As per the National Medical Council (NMC), in India, there are 554 medical colleges that offer nearly 83,000 MBBS seats. Hence, an extremely large section of aspirants does not get admission to MBBS.

In such a scenario, foreign medical universities offer ample opportunities to do an MBBS. These universities offer direct admissions with low admission requirements. Students can get a seat in government and top-ranked medical universities abroad without any entrance exam. Moreover, many of these international medical universities rank in the top 100 medical universities across the world, a few also rank better than AIIMS, Delhi.

Countries like the USA, China, Russia and New Zealand invest huge on education and spend more on research and development work, due to which medical fees are affordable in these countries. The classes are less crowded, each student gets more attention from teachers and aspirants get access to hospitals for laboratories and practicals.

Most of the medical universities of Russia, Ukraine, China and other developed countries have approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI)/National Medical Commission (NMC) and World Health Organization (WHO) which means MBBS degrees from these universities translates to wide access to work in many countries.

For getting admission to good medical colleges in India, the rank of NEET plays a crucial role and for studying MBBS abroad, one needs to only qualify for the NEET exam. Hence, the medical aspirants can also consider the options available abroad as far as the MBBS course is concerned.
