JJ Dermatology Head Transferred After Doctors Strike

After facing serious allegations of mismanagement and harassment, Dr Mahendra Kura, Head of Dermatology department, got transferred. 780 resident doctors at JJ Hospital were on indefinite strike to support 21 colleagues from the dermatology department who were protesting against the head of their department.

Following two weeks of protest and a series of allegations against Dr Kura, he is transferred to Aurangabad where he will join as the Head of Dermatology at the Government Medical College in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The state medical education department said in a letter that he was transferred due to “administrative reasons”.

Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) had accused Dr Kura of mental harassment, mismanagement of patient care resulting in six deaths, and dictatorial behaviour.

Dr Shubham Soni, president, MARD- JJ Hospital, said, “We are happy that Dr Kura has been transferred out of JJ Hospital and the state medical education department has given priority to the mental health of the resident doctors. It is a big relief to the resident doctors. All of us, including the 21 resident doctors from the dermatology department, will join the duties with immediate effect,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

In response to the decision, the JJ chapter of MARD ended their strike and announced that the doctors would promptly return to work. The Dermatology residents had alleged that they faced mental torture, harassment and threats under Dr Kura.
