Kandhamal Odisha to get new medical college with 100 MBBS seats
Odisha government is planning to establish a medical college with 100 MBBS seats in the Kandhamal district of the state at an estimated budget of INR 504 crore.
Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, has announced the government's plan to establish a new medical college and hospital that will offer 100 MBBS seats in the Kandhamal district. The estimated budget for this medical college is around INR 504 crore. The hospital will have 500 beds, as confirmed by the Chief Minister.
He said this while distributing the state government's health smart cards in the underdeveloped Kandhamal district. The smart cards were distributed under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, a universal health insurance scheme, a flagship programme of the state government. The scheme helps the beneficiary in facilitating medical benefits of up to INR 5 lakh, and for women, the medical coverage goes up to INR 10 lakh every year. Under this scheme, nearly 6.5 lakh people of the Kandhamal district will get health benefits.
Patnaik also said that the government is intending to bring 3.5 crore people of 96 lakh families under this health scheme so that all of them can get health smart cards. The beneficiaries can get healthcare services in 200 hospitals of India, he added, as reported by The Telegraph.
In April this year, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra along with a high-level team of officials had visited Kandhamal Medical College and Hospital to review the progress. CMO Odisha tweet of April 2, 2021, says, "Following direction of CM @Naveen_Odisha,@SecyChief Suresh Chandra Mohapatra and #5T Secretary V K Pandian along with a high-level team of officials visited Kandhamal to review the progress of construction of the Medical College and Hospital in Phulbani."
