A medical college in Karnataka's Kolar district has become a Covid cluster after more than 30 students are found to be Covid positive.

Once again, a medical college in Karnataka has become a Covid cluster after as many as 33 students are found to be Covid positive. All the cases are from Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College in the Kolar district.

The district administration has tested 1,160 students and staff members. As per reports, the infected students have no travel history to other countries.

The students who have been tested positive are sent to a hospital and reported to be in stable condition. The samples of these positive students have been set for genome sequencing to detect if they are infected with the new omicron variant or not.

Amid the omicron threat, the Karnataka government has imposed fresh restrictions in the state including a complete ban on large gatherings in public places and night curfew. The night curfew will be implemented from December 28 onwards as section 144 will be invoked from night 10 pm to next day morning 5 am.

The announcement came after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai chaired an urgent meeting with senior officials, ministers and members of the technical advisory committee.

“From 30-12-2021 to 02-01-2022 the restaurants/hotels/clubs/pubs will function with 50% of their seating capacity strictly adhering to COVID appropriate behaviour. All staff members of the said entities compulsorily possess COVID 19 negative RTPCR report and will be fully vaccinated with 2 doses of COVID 19 vaccine," says the new guidelines, as reported by Hindustan Times.
