KGMU Doctors' Association writes to VC about harassment of resident docs

The doctors' Association of King George's Medical University (KGMU) has raised the issue of harassment of resident doctors by faculty members. The Association has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor.

The letter reads, "We want to make you aware that in the recent 2, 3 years, many incidents have occurred where junior and senior residents have been harassed by the faculty members and no action was taken against them."

The letter talks about a recent incident where a student of the DM 2019 batch Dr Suresh was harassed in the Department of Geriatric mental health. The Association has demanded appropriate action against the faculty involved.

The letter highlighted what is happening in the university to harass residents - professors misuse their power and pressurise the doctors by saying that they will not approve the thesis and also fail them in the examination if they do not do professors' domestic work.

As per the letter, the doctors who join KGMU after clearing the national level entrance examination, face racism in the university.

"The doctors join the university after clearing national level entrance examination and hence if after three years of training in the university if these intelligent doctors fail, it also shows the failure of university management and faculty," reads the letter.

"Even after written complain on this, no action was taken and the faculty member against which the complaint was raised got promoted, this shows discrimination against residents doctors," added the letter.
