The Department of Anatomy at Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital (KMCH) hosted its first first-ever day-long Continuing Medical Education Programme (CME). The theme of the event was “New Medical College: Opportunities & Challenges, from the Perspective of the Department of Anatomy,”.

The event was attended by Principals from Nalbari Medical College, Dhubri Medical College, and Kokrajhar Medical College, alongside the Superintendent of Dhubri Medical College & Kokrajhar Medical College. The event also saw the participation of senior professors and faculties from various medical colleges in Assam.

As per the report of The Sentinel, the key discussions were around strategizing the establishment of different departments in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines. The objective of the CME was to foster collaborative discussions on the establishment of different departments in a new medical college.

Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma had earlier said that the state will soon be a hub of the country's medical education.

"Assam will soon become the country's hub for medical education. We are on our way to have 2,000 MBBS seats and over 1,000 PG Seats. Three newly built medical colleges have began their academic sessions simultaneously," he had said on X.

"With the increase in the MBBS seats, it also means that we will have more doctors passing out every year and they will be posted in government hospitals in rural areas. It will boost the overall healthcare system of the state," added the CM.
