After the outgoing Dean K Asokan was suspended a day before his retirment, Dr P Sangeetha has taken charge as the Dean cum Special Officer of Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) located at Bolupally, Krishnagiri district.

The former Dean was to retire on June 30 but was suspended a day before his retirement and Dr P Sangeetha took charge of the post on June 30, as reported by The Hindu. 

A release issued by the hospital stated, "All confidential letters and demi-official letters intended to the Dean cum Special Officer may be addressed to Dr Sangettha, Government Medical College Hospital, Pollupalli, Krishnagiri -635115".

Dr Asokan was suspended due to an alleged complaint of irregularities in the purchase of medical equipment. The government has also directed a probe into the matter.

Dr Asokan was sworn in as the Principal (Dean) of the medical college located at Bolupally, Krishnagiri District in December 2021. His removal just before his retirement has reportedly created a stir in the medical college community.

The Foundation of Krishnagiri GMCH was laid in 2020

The foundation stone for the medical college was laid in Bolupalli by then Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. The medical college cum hospital has 750 beds.

First Division Bench of Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice N. Mala of Madras High Court has upheld the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) to register FIR against 13 private medical colleges and all others involved in filling up 90 postgraduate medical seats without following merit criteria in 2020-21.
