Following the order issued by Deputy Director Dr V K Sharma, Lady Hardinge Medical College and associated SSK & KSC Hospitals have temporarily suspended the services of marshals and bouncers from the hospital which were hired to ensure the safety and security of the doctors and the hospital.

“I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to inform you that the services of marshals/bouncers are temporarily suspended in Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospital, therefore, the services of marshals may be withdrawn with immediate effect till further order,” said the order, as reported by Indian Express.

As per the report, while his recent visit to the hospital, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed displeasure over these bouncers and marshals.

As per sources, similar steps will be taken in other government hospitals as well. “RML Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital have also employed the services of private security personnel. Soon they may be instructed to end the contract,” a senior official said.

Docs not pleased with removal of bouncers

Dr Sarda, general secretary, of the Resident Doctors Association, LHMC, said the doctors were not consulted before incorporating the decision. A team of doctors will meet the hospital administration to get the reason behind the move “We are understaffed and the additional security gives us the confidence to work in a conducive environment. We were not consulted. However, we will try to get the reason behind the move first as the removal of security will concern us all for our security,” he said.

Various recent attacks on doctors by the patient's relatives highlighted the issue of doctors' security and many times doctors' associations have condemned such attacks.
