Madras HC cancels admission of third-year MBBS student

Madras high court has cancelled the admission of a third-year MBBS student identified as K.S. Manoj of Coimbatore who took admission through NEET UG counselling in 2020 in a government college in the MBBS course based on NEET score. However, later, a discrepancy was found in his score. While the student claimed that he scored 594 out of 720 but National Testing Agency (NTA) data shows that his score was 248.

"In view of this decision taken, I am afraid that the permission granted by the leaned Single Judge to permit the petitioner to attend the counselling and consequent to which the petitioner had been allotted a medical seat in Thoothukudi Government Medical College, will have to be interfered with and necessary orders will have to be passed terminating the continuance of study by the petitioner in the Thoothukudi Government Medical College," said the court, as reported by Live Law.

The background of the case

The student had filed a writ petition in the court challenging the NTA score. The student claimed that the OMR answer sheet which he had initially downloaded showed a score of 594 out of 720 but when the results were declared his score was 248. The student approached the court with a screenshot of his marks showing as 594.

A single-judge bench of the high court had allowed him to take admission in 2020 until the completion of the probe. However, last week Justice C.V. Karthikeyan dismissed the writ petition filed by the student and ordered the cancellation of his admission to the government college. The decision was given on the basis of the OMR sheet, as reported by Times Now.
