Maharashtra: UG medical courses' fees in private colleges to increase
While medical aspirants of the state were waiting for clarity on whether the state government will implement NMC's guidelines to reduce fees of 50% seats in private medical colleges, FRA has approved fees increase for UG courses in private colleges.
The Fee Regulatory Authority (FRA) has released various notifications for the academic year 2022-23 across Maharashtra and as per these notifications, it has approved the increase in the fees for undergraduate medical courses offered by private medical colleges in the state.
The notifications came just before the admissions in various MBBS and BDS courses and it has added to the stress of the students and parents as they were waiting for clarity on whether the state is implementing the Office Memorandum (OM) released by the National Medical Commission (NMC) earlier this year to make the fees of 50% seats in private medical colleges at par with the government medical colleges. But now instead of reducing the fees, private medical colleges across the state are ready to increase the fees.
"The fees for the UG medical courses in private colleges were approved following a meeting on 8 October," says FRA's notification, as reported by Indian Express.
Revised fee details
As per the report, the fee structure of KJ Somaiya Medical College, Sion, has been hiked to INR 11.27 lakh per year from INR 10 lakh per year. There is a significant increase in the fee structure of Padmashree Dr Vitthalrao Vike Patil Medical College in Ahmednagar to INR 11 lakh per year from INR 9.8 lakh per annum. The fee structure of Nagpur’s NKP Salve Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre has also increased to INR 11.6 lakh from INR 10.6 lakh per year.
