MAMC & LNH: Senior Residents, faculties allege mental harassment by HOD Dermatology Deptt

Faculty members and senior residents of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH) have alleged mental harassment by Dr Bijaylaxmi Sahoo, HOD Dermatology department. Three faculty members and a few senior residents have given written complaints against her narrating their experience with the HOD.

The three faculty members include Professor Dr Rashmi Sarkar, Consultant Dr Atul M Kochhar, and Assistant Professor Dr Vineet Relhan. They have written to the Principal Secretary of Health, GNCT, Delhi Sachivalaya. This long letter includes many allegations against the HOD.

"The current HOD Dr BL Sahoo is bent upon systematically destroying an established and reputed department and the careers of many brilliant students. We have tried speaking to her to no avail and we are suffering extreme mental stress and harassment. Sir, the Department of Dermatology MAMC & LNH has consistently been a premier department in India. Most of the leaders in the speciality are from this department. We would request your help in not being mentally harassed daily and by unnecessary red tapism," reads the letter.

Dr KD Barman, Dir. Prof. of Dermatology & VD has written to the dean of MAMC and said that Dr Sahoo has never put herself on emergency call duty after she becomes HOD. In the patient management of serious cases, advice/instruction from senior faculty is mandatory for residents' training/teaching and also is needed to claim conveyance allowance. Dr Sahoo has never seen an emergency patient and is still claiming a conveyance allowance.
