MBBS seats are up by 60% after planned medical colleges became functional in the state, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there have been significant improvements in the health infrastructure of the state in the last two years. He said that MBBS seats increased to 1500, which is an increase of 60%.

His tweet reads, "In the last 2 yrs, we have made significant strides in expanding health infrastructure. Rs 5 lakh insurance coverage for 56 lakh families, 7 cancer hospitals & available MBBS seats increased by 60% to 1,500 as 12 out of 24 planned medical colleges become functional."

Tinsukia Medical College to be completed by March 2024

He visited the construction site of Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital today and said that the construction work of the college will be completed by March 2024. Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital will be a 388-bedded hospital with 60 doctors and 150 nurses.

"HCM Dr @himantabiswa inspected the Medical College under construction at Makum in Tinsukia district today. HCM directed the officials to complete the construction work before September 10, 2023." reads a tweet by CM Assam.

He took stock of the progress of the construction works and directed the authorities concerned to complete 80 per cent of the construction work by September 10, 2023, in order to get recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), sources said, as reported by pratidintime.

He informed that the construction of the medical college is nearing its completion rapidly and he is hopeful that it will be completed by March 2024.
