Mohali to get new medical college, announces Punjab govt
While presenting the Punjab budget 2022-23, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced setting up a state-of-the-art “Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences” at Mohali.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented the AAP government's first budget for FY23 in the state assembly yesterday and announced setting up a state-of-the-art “Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences” at Mohali.
The government also said that they are aiming to make Mohali a hub of industry and information technology (IT).
About new medical college to be established in Mohali
Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences will be a super-speciality hospital which will also be a dedicated centre of excellence for the diagnosis and management of liver and biliary diseases. The institute will provide advanced training and research in the field of hepato-biliary sciences, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The college will be affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, and it will be the second government medical college in Mohali after Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Science in Phase 6.
Punjab Budget 2022-23: Other announcements
The state government proposed to establish a financial technology (Fintech) City near Mohali, where all facilities will be provided to encourage private participation in areas like artificial intelligence, financial technology, and blockchain technology.
The government has proposed to start the Punjab Young Entrepreneur programme to encourage class 11 students to propose their business ideas, the government will provide seed money of INR 2,000 per student under this programme. The government will also establish 117 "Mohalla Clinics", for which INR 77 crore has been earmarked.
