Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has completed the approval process for missing 670 seats from government and private medical colleges, says a report.

MUHS completes approval process for 670 seats

Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) officials have confirmed that they have completed the approval process for missing 670 seats from government and private medical colleges and also confirmed the work on the recently-approved government medical college (GMC) in Sindhudurg is currently underway.

“We have cleared almost all pending approvals except for the last few seats/institutes who received their approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC) only last week and a government resolution (GR) to the effect was released only on Friday (last week). This includes the newly-approved GMC in Sindhudurg district, and we are working on inspection etc for all pending approvals,” said a senior official from MUHS, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Many had raised objections to the CET cell's decision of not allotting a minimum of 650 seats across private medical colleges and 20 in GMC in the first seat allotment list released on February 1. Only 4,530 had been allotted in GMC instead of 4,550 seats and a total of 2,070 seats were allotted in private medical colleges instead of 2,720 shown in the seat matrix.

In colleges like ACPM Medical College in Dhule, Terna Medical College in Navi Mumbai, and Tasgaonkar Medical College in Karjat, not a single student has been allotted a seat and also in other private medical colleges where 50 additional seats were approved for the current academic session, not a single seat was allotted in the first seat allotment list.

Earlier, as per the Medical Counselling Committee's (MCC) original schedule, Round 2 of seat allotment was supposed to be announced between February 15 to 17 but now MCC has said that the state rounds for admission to UG And PG medical colleges will be held only after the completion of NEET Counselling 2021 Round 2 for All India Quota (AIQ) seats. It means Round 2 of seat allotment for Maharashtra undergraduate medical courses will only be announced after March 5 this year.

GMC Sindhudurg

National Medical Commission (NMC) had sent the letter of permission to GMC Sindhudurg on February 10 and approved 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2021-2022.

The letter reads, "In continuation to this office letter dated 02.02.2022 seeking information and your acceptance of the conditions mentioned therein vide letter date: 08.02.2022. We convey that your application for starting of new medical college with 100 MBBS seats was approved for the academic year 2021-2022."
