It is going to be a crucial exam for medical aspirants as NExT exam will function as both the final year undergraduate qualifying exam and the licentiate exam for practising modern medicine. It will also be used to allocate postgraduate seats to MBBS students and evaluate international medical graduates who want to practice in India.
Earlier, NMC had written to the Director of Medical Education of all States/Union Territories(UTs), "The National Exit Test (NExt) regulations are likely to be finalized shortly and would be placed before the NMC in the next meeting to be scheduled in June 2023. In order to finazlise the date of National Exit Test(NexT), the status regarding completion of the current batches of the final MBBS professional course, is required.”
As per the officials, the exam will be held in two steps - step 1 and step 2. The first step will be a theory-based exam while Step 2 will check the practical knowledge of candidates seeking admission in post-graduate medical courses.
Candidates who have qualified MBBS from India or abroad will have to clear the exam to register with the Medical Council of India. As per the reports, the exam will be held for the first time in December 2023 for the year 2024 session.
One of the latest tweets related to NExT exam reads, "NEXT" Exam From This year In December" There have been No official Notice from @NMC_IND till now confirmimg date of Examination in December."
