National Institute of Siddha (NIS) organised “Hands on Training Programme on Pharmacological Screening Methods for Siddha Drugs" from March 22, 2023 to March 23, 2023 for PG scholars of Govt. Siddha Medical College (GSMC), Chennai.

The director Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari, inaugurated the training programme. In her keynote address, she encouraged the participants to learn and update the screening techniques employed in the scientific validation of the efficacy and safety of Siddha formulations. This training was aimed in order that researchers get a glimpse and idea of how to conduct a study as well as evaluate the pharmacological activity of the drug.

The participants were trained on animal handling, oral route of drug administration, screening methods of analgesics, anti-inflammatories, anxiolytics, anti-depressants, CNS depressants and skeletal muscle relaxants.

Prof. Dr. M. Meenakshi Sundaram, Dean i/c, has delivered a felicitation address. The organizing team Dr. Suba (Pharmacology), In-charge, Animal facility, Dr. B. R. Senthilkumar (Physiology), Member Secretary, IAEC, and Dr Reshmee Thomas, Veterinarian conducted the training.

The training programme emphasized preclinical drug screening including vivo experiments for potential drug identification. Screening of drugs for analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti pyretic, anti-epilepsy, CNS depressant, anxiolytic anti-depressant and anaesthesia. 

The training was to impart knowledge on the preclinical evaluation of drugs in drug discovery and development.
