NEET 2020 cut off expected to be higher, result to be announced on October 16

Four extra months for preparation may result in higher cut offs for NEET 2020, say experts. NEET 2020 result will be announced on October 16.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), in its last notification, clearly mentioned that the result for NEET 2020 will be announced on October 16. Usually released a month after the examination, NEET 2020 was delayed because the authorities decided to conduct a re-test for the candidates who could not take the test due to the COVID-19 situation in India. NTA has stated in the notification that a combined NEET result will be released for both Phase I and Phase II of the examination.

Owing to the extra time that the students got for preparation, experts suggest that the NEET 2020 cut off will be higher as compared to the previous years. To support this, they cite the example of a reputed coaching institute claiming that one of their students will break all records by scoring 720 marks this year. The topper for NEET 2019, Nalin Khandelwal, had scored 701 marks. A candidate being able to score 720 marks in NEET 2020 only indicates that the bars for this year have been raised.

NEET 2020 was conducted on September 13. According to the statistics shared by NTA, nearly 85 per cent of those who had applied for the examination were able to take the test on the said test date. The remaining 15 per cent comprised students who either resided in containment zones or were infected with COVID-19. Since NEET is the only medical entrance test for UG admissions in India, not being able to appear for it this year would have resulted in the loss of an academic year for such students. Therefore, NEET 2020 retest was conducted. A combined NEET 2020 result will be announced on October 16.
