NEET 2021 Announcement Likely Next Week After Meeting with New Education Minister: Officials
According to an NTA official, NEET 2021 announcement will be made next week and consultations are on regarding the date of the exam since conducting NEET 2021 on August 1 does not seem feasible.
The NEET 2021 dates are likely to be announced by next week, along with the commencement of the online application procedure. The NEET 2021 exam date will also be deferred from the original schedule of August 1. A senior NTA official was quoted by a national daily as, “The fresh schedule along with guidelines for the online registration process is to announced next week. The new education minister who took charge on Friday would soon take a review meeting. Thereafter, the dates will be announced by NTA.”
The official also added, “Consultations are on and the exam is likely to be scheduled in the middle of September.” Notably, last year NEET was conducted on September 13. The exam was postponed from the original timeline of the first week of May on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 has been affected by the second wave of the pandemic and the threat of the third wave is also looming large.
Last week, NTA had released a notice warning NEET aspirants against a fake circular doing the rounds in social media, claiming NEET 2021 will be held on September 5. "The NTA is still in consultation with the concerned Stakeholders for finalizing a suitable date for the conduct of NEET (UG) – 2021, keeping in view the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Public at large is advised to pay no heed to such miscreants and misinformation," stated NTA.
Along with the declaration of JEE Main 2021 third and fourth season dates, there was massive speculation among students and stakeholders about the NEET 2021 dates. This was followed by a Cabinet reshuffle and the appointment of Dharmendra Pradhan as the new Union Education Minister, who took over Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’. It is expected that approximately 16 lakh candidates will appear for the exam which will be held in an offline mode in 11 languages.
