NEET 2022: Kerala HC seeks NTA's response to PIL for standard exam protocol
Kerala High Court has directed the National Testing Agency to file a detailed statement on the manner in which NEET 2022 was conducted in the state.
The Kerala High Court has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond to the PIL seeking standard NEET exam protocol across the country. The court has asked NTA to file a detailed statement explaining the manner in which the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted in Kerala.
The order was issued by a division bench on the petition filed by Asif Azad who also sought compensation for girl students who were forced to removed innerwear to appear for NEET 2022 and which caused the students mental trauma and stress before the exam. In light of the NEET 2022 frisking incident in the state, the petitioner sought to introduce a common protocol for conducting NEET across the country.
Kerala HC directed NTA to explain probe in NEET frisking incident
The court has also directed the NTA to explain the inquiry conducted on the incident in which the girl candidates were forced to remove their innerwear at an exam centre in Kollam on July 17. The statement should be filed with all supporting documents, stated the court, as reported by Indian Express.
The petitioner said that the female students were asked to remove the innerwear after metallic hooks were detected during the screening which caused severe emotional distress to the students.
Such an incident has not happened the first time, a similar incident took place in 2017 at Kannur and four teachers of a school were suspended for asking a girl to remove her innerwear before entering the exam hall, he added.
Petitioner made inappropriate remarks against the agency, alleges NTA
S Nirmal, counsel for the NTA, has alleged that the petitioner had made inappropriate averments against NTA which had conducted the NEET examination for nearly three lakhs students across the country. Besides, the petition did not satisfy the requirements of public interest litigation. The counsel also informed the court that in this frisking incident a crime has already been registered.
