The Supreme Court of India has allowed 27% OBC and 10% EWS reservation for medical admission under AIQ, now MCC is expected to announce the NEET Counselling 2021 schedule soon at mcc.nic.in.

Medical admissions

The admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses (MBBS / MD / MS / Diploma / BDS / MDS) under the All India Quota (AIQ) scheme were on hold due to the ongoing case in the Supreme Court. Finally, the top court has announced its judgement today where it has upheld the constitutional validity of reservations' announced on July 29, last year. Now, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the NEET Counselling 2021 schedule soon at mcc.nic.in.

MCC had earlier notified that the NEET Counselling 2021 process has got delayed due to the case challenging the OBC and EWS reservation in Supreme Court. Now, after the final judgement is announced, Supreme Court has paved way for NEET-UG and PG Counselling 2021 to begin soon.

In the court, Senior Advocate Shyam Divan had argued that the new reservation system must be implemented from next year. However, the top court has said today that the 27% OBC and 10% EWS reservation will be implemented from this year and the prospective ruling will be decided on a final hearing on March 3, 2022.Amid the ongoing third wave of Covid-19, Supreme Court observed that the admission process must begin immediately in the national interest.

MCC will conduct four rounds of counselling from this year, earlier it was conducting only two rounds of counselling for AIQ seats. It means after two rounds of counselling, vacant seats will not go back to the state quota.
