NEET MDS 2024: Centre more suited to decide on cut-off, says SC

The apex court of India has refused to make a judgement on extending the internship cut-off date for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS 2024). The Union government is more suited to take a call on the issue, said the Supreme Court.

"We direct that the representation be dealt with expeditiously and preferably within a period of one week from the date of this matter. We clarify that we have not expressed any opinion, and it will be open to the union government to take a call," said the court, as reported by NDTV.

NEET MDS postponed 2024: Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, alongside Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard the case. The petitioners demanded NEET MDS 2024 be postponed to July 2024. They also challenged the internship cut-off date of March 31, 2024.

Bench refuses to decide on the cut-off date itself, defers to the union govt, pronouncing - "...Cut-off for completion of internship has been fixed for March 31, whereas cut-off for NEET-PG has been fixed for August 15. Gaurav Sharma informs the court that the union govt is already seized of the matter, seeking data from the National Dental Commission...Since issue of fixing cut-off date essentially pertains to policy domain, it would be more appropriate to submit a representation, added the court, as reported by Live Law.
