NEET opposition in TN is political, says Dharmendra Pradhan

Tamil Nadu government has been strongly opposing the NEET exam for a long time now, union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that opposing the exam is a political move, read here for more details.

Amid the longstanding demand of the Tamil Nadu government for exemption from the NEET exam, the state's NEET UG 2023 candidates have performed extremely well in the exam this year.

With four of the Tamil Nadu candidates among the top 10 in NEET 2023, 31 scoring 700 or more out of 720, and 386 getting more than 650 marks, the state again emerged as one of the top-performing states in NEET result 2023. The total number of students qualifying from the state increased from 67,787 in 2022 to 78,693, in 2023 while 12,349 more candidates appeared this year in the exam.

On this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the state's opposition to the NEET exam is purely political. "Students of Tamil Nadu have accepted NEET wholeheartedly and I congratulate them for their excellent performance. Students' interests should be paramount and they should no longer be misled," he said, as reported by TOI.

Tamil Nadu's government has been opposing the NEET examination for long and opines that the exam supports the affluent candidates and for the poor candidates and those from rural areas, there is not much scope which leads to extreme pressure on these students and they take extreme steps such as suicide.

Despite, such opposition from the state government, the candidates continue to perform well in the exam.
