NEET UG 2023: NMC revises age criteria, tie-breaking rules from next year
NTA announced the NEET result 2023 yesterday and NMC notified the GME Regulations on June 2, 2023.
As per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 (GMER-23) released on June 2, 2023, candidates must have completed the age of 17 years on or before January 31 of the year of admission to UG medical courses in order to be eligible for NEET-UG. Earlier, the cut-off date was December 31 of the admission year.
While referring to the age criteria for appearing in NEET UG mentioned in gazetted notification of GMER-23, NMC said “The word “January” in Clause 11 (a) under the heading Admission, Counselling and Migration etc,” in chapter III of GEMR 2023 may please be read as “December. Necessary amendment is being issued separately.”
As per the GMER 23 regulations, in case of tie in NEET-UG marks, the respective marks obtained in physics followed by chemistry and then biology will be considered and in that order. If the tie continues, then eligible candidates will be selected from the draw lots by using a computer, with no human intervention.
All these changes will be implemented by next year. The NMC's regulations have also proposed common counselling for admission to undergraduate medical courses, however, Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian said that there will be no common counselling this year and even next year they are going to oppose it.
