The number of female toppers increased from 16 to 23 percent, with four women ranked among the top 17.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the highly awaited NEET-UG admission exam final results on Friday, July 26. The number of NEET-UG toppers fell to 17 from the 61 listed in the earlier updated results, which was an unexpected turn of events. There was a small decrease in both the number of qualified candidates and the cutoff marks.

After three days of the Supreme Court dismissing many petitions seeking a rerun of the NEET-UG 2024 exam on the grounds of purported paper leaks and other malpractices, the NTA announced the NEET UG re-revised results. In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court ordered the NTA to update the merit list in response to a controversial physics question with two possible valid answers. The right choice was determined by a group of experts that the Supreme Court selected.

The decision prompted a thorough reassessment of all 23 lakh students' NEET scores and ranks. As a result of the court invalidating the contested marks from the physics question, the scores of at least 420,000 studentsโ€”44 of the 61 students who started the exam with flawless scoresโ€”dropped by five points. However, the complete effect on individual rankings is still unclear.

On June 4, the controversy started when the first NEET results showed an unprecedented 67 students receiving a perfect 720, raising questions about the validity of the test. In retaliation, the NTA withheld grace marks from six candidates and lowered the total number of top scorers to 61 on July 1.

The final adjustment resulted in a sharp decline in the number of top scorers, as well as in the number of qualified candidates and qualifying cutoffs. Seventeen candidates out of the top 100 maintained perfect scores, six at 716, and seventy-seven at 715.

The number of female toppers increased from 16 to 23 percent, with four women ranked among the top 17. The leading contenders were from several states: Kerala, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh.

There are currently 1,315,853 eligible candidates overall, a 415 reduction from the previous count. There were more eligible candidates in fifteen states and Union Territories, including Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. With more than 165,000 qualifiers, Uttar Pradesh was first, followed by Rajasthan (121,000) and Maharashtra (142,000. Each of Kerala (86,713) and Karnataka (88,887) has more than 85,000 qualifiers.

Q: ย  How will I come to know when the NEET result is announced?

A:

NTA announces the NEET result or scorecard download information on the official exam website. Various media portals and social media platforms also announce the declaration of results. Test takers are advised to keep a check on the official websites as well as opt for notifications or alerts at the news and social media platforms to get instantly notified about the declaration of NEET result. Moreover, they also get the NEET result information from their teachers or peers.

Q: ย  Where can I check the NEET result?

A:

The NEET result will be declared on the official websites of NTA and NEET. The URLs where the result or the scorecard of NEET 2025 will be available for download are as follows:

  • exams.nta.ac.in/NEET
  • neet.ntaonline.in
  • nta.ac.in

The above mentioned websites carry the official notice about the NEET result declaration, procedure and links to download the scorecard.

Q: ย  After how many days of the exam is the NEET result declared?

A:

In general, the result of NEET is declared approximately after one-and-a-half months of conducting the exam. Based on the previous years' trends, it has been observed that the NEET exam is conducted in the first week of May and the result is declared in the second week of June. In the official notification released by NTA regarding the exam date announcement, the conducting body has stated that the NEET 2024 result will be declared in the second week of June. The exam is slated to be held on May 5. Hence, it can be stated that the NEET result is declared approximately after 1.5 months of the exam conduct.

Q: ย  When did NTA release the NEET 2024 result?

A:

NTA released the re-revised scorecard on July 26, 2024. In this scorecard, the score has been revised as per the Supreme Court verdict of removing the bonus marks awarded earlier for the controversial Physics question, and deducting one mark from those who marked incorrect answer options. The city and centre-wise result data such as number of candidates appeared and scores obtained, by masking candidates' personal data was released on July 21, as per the Supreme Court order given on the hearing dated July 18, 2024. The NEET 2024 result for the re-exam, which was conducted on June 23, was declared on July 1, day day after the slated date. The final answer keys for the NEET 2024 re-exam was released by June 30, ahead of the result declaration. Earlier, the result of NEET 2024 was declared by NTA on June 4, 2024, 10 days ahead of the original schedule, which was June 14, 2024. NTA released the final NEET answer keys on June 4, prior to the release of the NEET result 2024. The NEET result was declared in an online mode. Candidates have to log in with their registration credentials or application number and date of birth, and download their scorecard in PDF format. NTA also released the merit list containing the name, Roll Number, All India Rank and Percentile of the candidates. Along with the NEET 2024 scorecard, NTA also released the NEET 2024 cutoff marks or the qualifying marks/scores.

Q: ย  What is the validity of the NEET scorecard?

A:

NEET score card is valid for admission to the current academic session only. NEET 2024 result cannot be carried forward for admission to the 2025-26 academic session. Hence, in case a candidate fails to qualify for NEET 2024 or unable to take admission in that academic year, then they have to appear for NEET next year and seek admission. Beyond a year, the NEET scorecard will just be another document or a record to prove the appearance in NEET.

The qualifying cutoffs were also decreased by the updated results. The revised cutoff range for the unreserved and economically weaker sectors is 720-162, down from 164, and the range for the OBC, SC, and ST categories is 161-127. It's interesting to note that more people qualified for the SC and ST categories than for the unreserved, EWS, and OBC categories.

โ€œThe Supreme Court had already denied requests for a NEET-UG 2024 repeat, dealing a setback to applicants who had not succeeded in passing the exam by ruling that there was no proof of widespread violations that jeopardized its integrity. Both the administration and the NTA, who were the subject of strong criticism and demonstrations due to the purported malpractices, were relieved by this decision,โ€ said Gaurav Tyagi, Founder of Career Xpert.

Having filed six formal complaints, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently actively looking into the purported anomalies in NEET-UG 2024. The National Testing Agency's NEET-UG is a vital entry point for admission to government and private universities' MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other relevant programs.
