The Supreme Court of India, on Monday, issued notices owing to the pleas filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) seeking the transfer of cases pending from the High Courts to the Supreme Court. The notices have been issued to various high courts on the NEET UG row to the apex court to avoid a multiplicity of litigations. Previously, a vacation bench, on June 14, issued notices to the parties on similar pleas by the NTA.

NTA highlighted that there are multiple allegations in various high courts seeking the cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Under Graduate (NEET-UG) 2024 owing to question paper leaks and other malpractices.

Advocate Vardhaman Kaushik, on behalf of NTA, requested a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala to transfer a fresh batch of High Court pleas to the Supreme Court as they pertained to the same issue, as reported by Indian Express.

Consecutively, the bench said “Issue notice and tag,” and approved that these pleas would be taken up together with the ongoing and pending petitions on the NEET UG row 2024.

Further, NTA urged the bench to stay the pending proceedings against the NEET 2024 exam which are submitted in several High courts in India to which CJI communicated that once the Supreme Court has issued notices on transfer petitions, the high courts, procedurally, do not proceed with the hearing.

The bench instructed the NTA to notify the concerned high courts. As many as five petitions asking for the transfer of cases from different high courts to the Apex court were being heard by the CJI. Besides, The bench had received a status report from the CBI concerning alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET 2024 exam.

Previously, the apex court has issued similar notices concerning transfer petitions by NTA which was filed in Delhi High Court challenging alleged paper leak of NEET 2024 exam.
