New medical colleges boosted districts’ health infrastructure, says UP govt
Uttar Pradesh Medical Education Secretary Alok Kumar has said that the health infrastructure of the districts has improved due to 14 newly established medical colleges. When compared with the pre-covid period, there has been a 2X increase across parameters which resulted in better health services in 14 districts.
UP Medical Education Secretary Alok Kumar has prepared an internal report comparing the health infrastructure before and after Covid-19. Based on this report, he said that the health infrastructure of 14 districts has improved thanks to 14 newly built medical colleges in these districts.
As per the report of The Print, he has compared various services offered in the 14 district hospitals, which were converted to medical colleges in 2022, by upgrading their infrastructure.
The various parameters which were compared in the report were the number of cesarean deliveries (C-sections), major surgeries done in the hospitals and admissions in outpatient and inpatient departments. Data for 2020 and 2021 were not used because those were the pandemic years. Hence, the data from 2019 has been compared with 2022.
Alok Kumar has expressed this on Twitter. He tweeted, "Drastic improvement in the performance of the 14 newly established medical colleges. We compare 2019 ( pre-Covid) with 2022 ( post -Covid). There has been a 2X increase across parameters. Clear evidence of improving health services in these 14 districts."
More details on the report
The report shows that in 2019, a total of 13,112 C-Sections were done in the 14 hospitals and, in 2022, the number increased to 26,583.
