NExT: NMC releases National Exit Test Regulations 2023; check details
National Exit Test Regulations 2023 has been released by National Medical Commission. It comprises rules and regulations and other crucial details regarding NMC NExT 2023. the exam will be held in two steps, one online and another in offline mode. NExT Step 1, theory based exam will be held twice a year, May and November.
National Medical Commission has released National Exit Test Regulations 2023 online. It comprise rules and regulations and crucial details about NExT MBBS exam such as eligibility criteria, tentative dates, syllabus etc. The exam will be held in twice a year, May and November in two steps, Step 1 and Step 2. Step 1 will be theory exam while Step 2 will check practical knowledge of candidate. NExT Step 1, an online exam will be held for three days in two shifts. NexT Step 2 will be held by respective state Health Universities / Institutions. Accoring to latest updates, students have been protesting for the decision of NMC regarding qualifying marks for NExT Step 1. MBBS students have requested government to reduce the qualifying marks for national exit test.
Who will be eligible for NExT exam?

All undergraduate medical students pursuing MBBS from Medical Colleges approved by NMC

All Foreign Medical Graduates who are eligible to register as medical practitioner in India

Any other person with a medical degree for purposes such as pursuing an academic course, observership or any other purposes
NExT Step 1 Exam: Important points

NExT Step 1 exam will be held in computer-based mode, twice a year

The exam shall replace the conventional university/institutional theory examinations of III MBBS /Final MBBS Part II.

No restriction regarding number of attempts, provided candidate must has passed both Step 1 and Step 2 exam within 10 years of joining MBBS course

The exam will be held for 3 days in two shifts

There will be six paper covering subjects of III MBBS /Final MBBS, both Part 1 and Part 2

The question paper will have multiple choice questions
NExT Step 2 Exam: Important points

NExT Step 2 will be practical /clinical and Viva Examination
-
There will be seven clinical subjects/disciplines

Candidates will have to be present in person for the exam

NExT Step 2 will be evaluating practical /clinical skills, clinical decision-making and communication skills of candidates

The practical exam shall be held twice a year but it will be valid for only those candidates who fail in one or more of the seven subjects
Minimum Passing marks for NExT

To qualify NExT Step 1, candidates need to score minimum 50% marks or half of the maximum possible raw scores

NExT 2 examinations results will be based as per the competency of candidates. Candidates will be declared pass or fail accordingly
Tie Breaking rules

The normalized sum of raw scores obtained in each paper /subject in single NExT step-1 examination

Candidate with lesser attempts of NExT step-1 will get higher rank

Candidate with Higher marks in following order of preference will be given higher rank:

Surgery and allied disciplines

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Paediatrics

Otorhinolaryngology
