NExT Exam: FORDA writes to Mansukh Mandaviya about concerns

Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has written to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya regarding the recently published National Exit Test (NExT) Regulations in the Gazette notification of the National Medical Commission.

As per FORDA, the publication of the NExT Gazette has caused significant confusion among students. The letter has talked about the stringent and strict assessment of the exam, particularly the provision of negative marking.

“We firmly believe that the inclusion of negative marking is a detrimental practice that can have severe consequences for the aspirants. A qualifying exam cannot be as strict as a Competitive exam,” reads the letter. The association has requested a reconsideration of this provision.

FORDA also appreciated the minister for excluding the 2019 batch of medical students from NExT, however, it said that there should be a written announcement in this regard.

The doctors’ association also urged NMC to address the lack of clarity regarding the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) status within the NExT Regulations. The current Gazette does not adequately explain the details and policies concerning FMGE candidates, leaving them in a state of confusion and uncertainty. It is imperative that the NMC promptly rectify this issue and provide unambiguous guidelines and eligibility criteria for FMGE candidates in relation to the NExT, said FORDA.

It is crucial to adopt a students-centric approach that values the perspectives and experiences of the appearing students. We emphasize the importance of taking their feedback into consideration before drafting any future policies regarding the NExT exam regulations, added FORDA.
