NExT MBBS exam twice a year; mock test on July 28: NMC
NMC has clarified NExT MBBS exam will be held twice a year, May and November. The exam will be held in computer-based mode in two steps. During webinar on Tuesday, June 27, National Medical commission informed 2019 MBBS students will be the first batch for Exit test. NMC NExT will be implemented tentatively from 2024.
NExT exam will be held twice a year, National Medical Commission (NMC) has said. Providing further details during a webinar held on June 2, the commission said the exam will be held in computer-based mode. 2019 MBBS students will be the first batch which will be eligible for NMC NexT exam. NMC also shared pattern for National Exit Test in the webinar participated by faculty of top medical colleges and final year MBBS students. The exam will be held in two steps, Step 1 and Step 2. Candidates will have to clear Step 1 and internship to appear for Step 2 NExT exam. No clarity was provided regarding the exam commencement. However, it is expected to be implemented from May 2024.
NExT Mock Test and exam pattern
As per the information shared by NMC, a mock test will be available on July 28 to make candidates understand the whole process. Registration for NExT mock/practice test will begin from July 28. The objective of the mock test to familiarize candidates with Computer Based Test (CBT). They will have idea how software interface works and process flow in the examination center.
According to NExT exam pattern, there will be 6 subjects in Step 1 and 7 in Step 2. Candidates do have to clear Step 1 and serve mandatory internship to become eligible for Step 2. NExT Step 1 will be theoretical exam which will test deep understanding of particular subject while Step2 will be practical exam.

NExt exam will be implemented most likely from May 2024. The tentative schedule of the NExT MBBS has been provided below in the table:

NExT exam or National Exit Test will be conducted for providing admission to post graduate courses. It will be replacing existing NEET PG and FMGE exams. The Exit test will be a licentiate exam mandatory for undergraduate medical students to practice in India. Candidates who qualified MBBS from India or abroad will have to clear the exam to register with the Medical Council of India.
