NIPER (Amendment) Bill, 2021 passed in Lok Sabha
Lok Sabha passes the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2021 with the support of all parties.
NIPER (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, says that all institutes established after the commencement of the NIPER (Amendment) Act, 2021 will be an institution of national importance.
To strengthen Pharmaceutical Education and Research in India, NIPER(Amendment) Bill, 2021 is passed in Lok Sabha. After the Bill is passed in Parliament, six more institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Raebareli, Guwahati and Hajipur gets the status of institutes of national importance. These six institutes were established in 2007-2008 and reportedly contributed significantly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
NIPER (Amendment ) Bill, 2021, was introduced in Lok Sabha on March 15. The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Act, 1998 had established the NIPER at Mohali and it gets amended through the current Bill.
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted after the Bill was passed in Parliament. The tweet reads, "Delighted that the Lok Sabha has passed the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2021, after a rich debate. Glad to see such huge support for the Bill."
He said in Parliament, "NIPERs were earlier providing Masters and PhD degree only but the amendment also says that undergraduate courses should also we included. The country has more than 10,000 pharmaceutical industries. Big industries have research systems but the smaller ones don't have such systems. Here, small industries can take NIPER's help for research. It will save industries' research costs and NIPER students will also get the research training."
