NMC asks Health Ministry's view over SC direction to help Ukraine returned medical students
The National Medical Commission has asked Health Ministry's view on Supreme Court's direction to allow Ukraine returned medical students to complete clinical training in Indian medical colleges.
After the Supreme Court has directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to make a scheme so that the Ukraine returned medical students, and other such medical students pursuing MBBS from foreign universities can complete their clinical training in India, NMC has asked the Health Ministry's view on this and the ministry is expected to hold a meeting this week.
Ukraine returned medical students have been demanding to accommodate them to Indian medical colleges so that they can complete their studies in India. Now, the West Bengal government has decided to accommodate them in the state medical colleges.
As per experts, there are no norms under the NMC regulations to accommodate these students to medical colleges of India. The NMC had earlier said that foreign medical graduates with incomplete internships due to pandemic or war can finish their internship in India provided they have cleared the Foreign Medical Graduates Examniation (FMGE) before applying for completion of internship in India.
External Affairs Ministry had urged Health Minister to help these students
