NMC Clarifies Minimum Standards for Postgraduate Courses, Urges Strict Compliance from Medical Colleges
NMC, In a 14-page notification outlining the clarification on minimum standard requirements for postgraduate courses, has urged medical colleges to adhere to mandatory guidelines. These include requirements for closed-circuit cameras, official websites, clinical materials, and more.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a clarification regarding the minimum standard requirements for postgraduate medical courses in India. The NMC’s clarification addresses concerns raised by medical institutions and prospective postgraduate candidates about the eligibility criteria and infrastructure needed to offer postgraduate education. The clarification regarding minimum standard requirement for Post Graduate courses (PGSMR 2024) contains the latest revision from the PGSMR 2023 in accordance with the previously released notification to ensure clarity and prevent misintrepretatiton.
The NMC’s clarification includes the minimum infrastructure, faculty, and academic standards required to be maintained by the medical colleges and hospitals willing to offer postgraduate programs. The new guidelines aims to enhance the quality of education and training for students wth the required skills and knowledge to evolve in the healthcare sector.

Guidelines Include Faculty Qualification Standards
The revised minimum standard requirements also include the qualifications and experience of faculty and the number of clinical cases. Besides, the guidelines also cater to the necessary facilities and equipment required under the infrastructure. Institutions should have laboratories, libraries, and modern medical equipment to support learning and research.
The key highlight of the guidelines is NMC's focus on facility quality. The guidelines put special emphasis on the minimum number of faculty required and the experience of the faculty members. Besides, the guidelines also cater to clinical exposure for postgraduate students to make them capable of diagnostic and treatment skills in real-world scenarios. Moreover, NMC has urged all concerned medical colleges to adhere to the mandatory requirement as per the guidelines.
