NMC Rejected 13 New Medical College

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has denied permission to begin the MBBS programme in Uttar Pradesh to 13 medical colleges. The commission has denied permission to 13 new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh owing to a lack of adequate infrastructure and faculty to conduct MBBS courses at an institute. The shortcomings were highlighted during the inspection process.

However, the state authorities have decided to file an appeal with NMC for the same. Reportedly, the state has over 10,000 MBBS seats and has a prospective plan to increase MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh by 1300 more intake. The permission denial has persuaded the state authorities to file an appeal with the National Medical Commission (NMC) for reconsideration. Uttar Pradesh State will go through the minimum standards required for the MBBS programme which were updated in 2023. The authorities will adhere to the requirements and re-apply for permission within 15 days, as reported by Hindustan Times.

In case NMC denies the permission to start the MBBS programme once again, then the state's medical education department can file an application to the Union Health Ministry for the mandatory letter of permission.
