Under the changed scenarios/circumstances regarding augmentation in the number of medical colleges, nodal centres as well as regional centres, it becomes necessary to do the re-allocation of all medical colleges for various Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), said National Medical Commission (NMC) statement.

NMC issues circular for re-allocation of medical colleges including PG institutes

At present 634 medical colleges/standalone PG are placed under 12 nodal centres and 23 regional centres for the purpose of various Faculty Development Programs viz. Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME), Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP) and Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME), says National Medical Commission (NMC) official statement.

Since the last allocation of the medical colleges, a number of new medical colleges have been opened, two regional centres are upgraded to the status of nodal centres and three medical colleges have been accorded the status of regional centres for the purpose of FDPs.

Hence, as per NMC, it becomes necessary to reallocate the medical colleges for the various faculty development programs. Regional centres are also required to be reallocated to the nodal centres for the purpose of ACME besides re-allocating standalone PG institutes for BCME.

Based on feedback from the environment, Geographical proximity and the number of the colleges assigned the duties/workload, the competent authority has approved the re-allocation of all the medical colleges. The list can be seen on NMC's official website NMC.org.in.

NMC recently released guidelines on the professional responsibilities of medical students and said that medical students are expected not to indiscriminately post patient information on social media.

NMC's guidelines read, "Students must be aware of the ever-expanding scope of social media with its usefulness as well as possible professional hazards associated with its indiscriminate use."
