NMC issues Faculty Development Programs guidelines
NMC issued the guidelines for Faculty Development Programs and directed medical colleges that it shall come into force with effect from April 17, 2023. The guidelines shall be adhered to meticulously by all and any violation will be viewed seriously, said NMC's circular.
National Medical Commission's circular stated that since its inception, nearly 200 new medical colleges have been established taking the number to 639. There have been sweeping changes in medical technology and education too. Hence, a strong need was felt to review and revise the guidelines.
The guidelines covered financial aspects, the composition of MEU and the curriculum committee of medical colleges, the Conduct of Basic Courses ln Medical Education, the BCME Program and more.
The Curriculum Committee (CC) shall ensure implementation and monitoring of curriculum at their colleges e.g conduct of CISP, Time table scheduling etc. The Medical Education Unit (MEU) shall of a medical college focused on training support e.g conduct of BCME and other inhouse training of faculty.
All Curriculum Committee members including the Principal / Dean should have undergone MCI/NMC revised Basic Course Workshop in MET or Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) at their allocated Nodal Centre (NC)/ Regional Centre (RC). There should be a quarterly meeting of CC in the colleges every year and the report shall be submitted to the respective NC/RC within a month of the meeting. Conveners of NC/RC shall forward a consolidated report to the Academic cell, UGMEB every quarter and highlight any issues of concern in the allocated colleges.
