NMC issues public notice on video conferences conducted by UGMEB

National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that the video conferences circulating in media addressing the challenges of UG medical education were not conducted by NMC but UGMEB.

NMC issues public notice related to UGMEB

The National Medical Commission (NMC) Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has clarified that a message is being circulated in media with the headlines "Highlights of today's VC by NMC"/"Minutes of NMC discussion with all medical colleges of India" was conducted by UGMEB and not by NMC.

The official notification says, "It is to bring to the notice of all concerned that a message is being circulated in the media under the headlines "Highlights of today's VC by NMC"/"Minutes of NMC discussion with all medical colleges of India" that the meeting was not conducted by NMC. It was held by UGMEB."

"However, video conferences were held from 7th to 11th Feb 2022 with the Deans/Principals, MEUs of the medical colleges, Vice-Chancellors of the Health Universities and Expert Groups of Regional Centres & Nodal Centres of the medical colleges/institutes of the country under the Chairmanship of President, UGMEB to address the challenges for undergraduate Medical Education and planning the Academic Curriculum for MBBS batch starting from the academic session 2021-22. The relevant guidelines shall be made available by Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) on NMC website shortly," added the notification.

Functions of Undergraduate Medical Education Board

It determines medical education standards at the UG level and minimum requirements and standards for conducting courses and examinations. It also determines the norms and standards for infrastructure, faculty and quality of education in medical institutions and facilitates the development and training of faculty members by teaching undergraduate courses. It develops the curriculum for addressing the requirements of primary health services, community medicine and family medicine.
