NMC logo changed: Ayurveda god image added; Medical fraternity not pleased
The recent modification in the NMC logo created a stir among the medical fraternity who are not happy with the changes.
As per TOI report, NMC stated that the Dhanvantri logo was in use for almost a year. "Earlier, it was in black and white and, therefore, not visible in printouts. We have simply used a colour photo in the centre of the logo," said NMC.
To oppose these changes, Indian Medical Association Kerala State Branch has written to the Chairman of National Medical Commission that these changes in the logo is not acceptable to the medical fraternity.
The new logo gives a wrong message and will harm the scientific and secular nature of the Commission. Memebers of the profession have already raised their voice against this unacceptable move, added the letter.
The Association has sought immediate action in this regard and strongly condemned the decision of NMC.

"What's more saddening is NMC logo now will have Ayurveda founder Dhanvantari a kind of alternative medicine pic in its logo for Modern medicine in India," says one of the tweet.
However, there are others who seem to be supporting NMC, one such tweet says - "The Height of Hypocrisy ! So called seculars in India had never had an issue with Statue of Asclepius (Greek God of Medicine) & "Caduceus" as symbols for medicine and health are crying today for having a symbol of Indian god of health and life sciences in the new NMC logo !."
