NMC releases clarification about FMGs internship in India

National Medical Commission has issued detailed clarification on various aspects of the internship of FMGs in India.

The Commission has said that the provision of two years of internship is only applicable to those Foreign Medical Graduates who were in their last year of study of medical education and returned to India due to Covid 19 or the Russia and Ukraine war etc.

After successful completion of medical qualification in their respective foreign medical institutes, such FMGs are required to qualify for FMGE and undergo Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship for a period of two years in a hospital attached to a medical college only.

State Medical Councils shall not deny allotment of medical colleges for an internship to FMGs on the basis of their domicile. An FMG can complete his/her internship from a medical college in any state/UT if found eligible otherwise, stated NMC.

On the non-availability of seats for FMGs to start their internship, NMC said that it has been decided by UGMEB to validate the list of recognized non-teaching hospitals for Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship issued by the erstwhile Medical Council of India, for a period of one year from the issue of this circular, that is, up to May 2024, for the conduct of internship for Foreign Medical Graduates only. The relaxation is granted only as a one-time measure, added NMC. The list of recognized non-teaching hospitals for CRMI is issued at the official website nmc.org.in. It is attached to the NMC's circular, candidates can check from the website.
