No Increase in MBBS Fee in Karnataka for Session 2024-25, Government Notifies
MBBS Fee in Karnataka would not be increased despite private medical and dental college management's demand for a fee hike of 15 to 20% for the academic session 2024-25 as Karnataka government has recently allowed engineering and architecture institutes to increase up to 10% fees for their programmes.
Karnataka government has decided not to increase the MBBS course fees 2024-25 as a relief to the medical students. The MBBS course fee will continue to be INR 50,000 per year for government medical colleges and INR 1,28,746 per year for government quota seats in private medical colleges.
The Karnataka government has not increased the medical course fees from the academic session 2012-22. This year, the private medical and dental colleges urged the government to allow an increase of 10% in the MBBS course fees. However, the government denied the request to increase the fees. Earlier in 2018-19, the government allowed private medical and dental colleges to increase fees by 26% followed by a 15% increase in the year 2019-20 and a 15% increase in the year 2020-21, as reported by the Hindu.
When Did the Issue Started?
The MBBS course fee issued started with the disagreement between private medical and dental colleges and the government. The private medical and dental colleges demanded an increase of 15 to 20% fee hike while the government proposed to increase the MBBS fees in Karnataka by 10 percent. Meanwhile, private medical and dental colleges belonging to minority communities agreed to a 10% fee hike but the remaining colleges refused to settle for a 10% hike.
The government refused to accept the proposal for a fee hike of 15 to 20% on the grounds of covering the cost of expenditure. The private medical and dental colleges and the state government will sign the consensual agreement shortly.
