No NExT for 2019 batch, applicable from 2020 MBBS batch: Health Minister
NExT exam will be applicable for 2020 MBBS batch, said Union Health Minister recently. Earlier the exam was supposed to be applicable from 2019 batch. NExT exam will be held in two steps, Step 1 and Step 2. The exam will be held twice a year, May and November. NExT mock exam is schedule on July 28.
NExT exam continues to hog limelight due to many reasons including exam timing, implementation process etc. Reportedly, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has stated NExT MBBS exam will be applicable to 2020 MBBS batch instead of 2019 batch. He made the statement while addressing students at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur on July 6. National Medical Commission and the Centre will not take any steps related to NExT which will create confusion among students, minister further said. The video of minister making the statement has been shared on twitter.
"No student is required to undergo any stress. I'm not bringing the 2019 batch under NExT. I will bring the 2020 batch under it," he was quoted as saying.
Earlier, the Health Minister also asked NMC to waive the fees for NExT mock exam which is scheduled to be held on July 28.
NMC NExT is envisaged as a common qualifying final-year MBBS exam, a licentiate exam for foreign medical graduates to practice in India and also to get admission into postgraduate courses on the basis of merit. The national exit test will be replacing existing NEET PG and FMGE exams.
According to recently released National Exit Test Regulations, 2023, the NExT MBBS exam will be held in two steps, theory and practical. The exam will be held twice a year, May and June. NExT Step 1 will be held in computer-based mode while NExT Step 2 will be in offline mode. AIIMS will be the conducting body for the exam. NExT exam dates and schedule have not been released, however, the mock exam date has been declared. The last date to submit application form for NExT mock exam is July 10.
