Over 100 Medicos Fail Practical Surgery Exam in Tirunelveli Medical College; Pass Percentage Decreases to 55%

Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University released the semester exam results on May 16, 2024. Out of 250 students who took the semester examination in general surgery, 105 students failed in one of the four papers. 

Tirunelveli Medical College Result

Tirunelveli Medical College released the final year MBBS result on May 16, 2024. Shockingly, more than 100 students in the final year at Government Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital have failed in general surgery semester examination. Consequently, the pass percentage of the was decreased to 55%. 

The Vice-chancellor of the institute explained the ratio of practical and theoretical aspects of the exam and shared the result statistics for the general surgery semester examination. 

"In the undergraduate medical course, students are required to write theory and practical exams in each subject. The individual passing marks in the practical and theoretical portions is 40% with a required aggregate of 100 marks. For reference, if a student has secured 40 marks in theory then he/she must get 60 marks in their practical session" Says Dr K Narayanasamy, Vice-chancellor of Tirunelveli College. 

Reportedly, all students managed to get 40% marks in theory and 44 students were not able to get 40% marks in their practical session. Furthermore, 65 students could not get an adequate percentage to clear the semester exam, as reported by TOI. 

NMC Disallowed Awarding Grace Marks 

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has disallowed awarding grace marks of up to five marks from the academic session 2024-25. Students who were unable to qualify the semester exam will now have to appear for the supplementary examination. The Tirunelveli Medical College supplementary exam date is May 29, 2024
