Public Reacts to Supreme Court’s Decision on NEET-UG 2024 Re-Exam for 1,563 Candidates; NTA Under Fire
This apex court’s decision on NEET UG 2024 has raised serious questions about the role and conduct of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The Supreme Court’s recent decision to withdraw the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were awarded grace marks and offer them the option of a re-exam has ignited a wave of reactions on social media. The court ruled that these candidates could retake the exam on June 23, 2024, or have their results based on their actual marks without grace marks. This decision has raised serious questions about the role and conduct of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
One of the X (formerly Twitter) users, Rishi Choudhary, questioned the accountability of the NTA in this situation: “Why not NTA held responsible for such frivolous act and a stern action being taken against them to set and example. Re-exam should be conducted for these 1563 students and not just as an option. Paper leak should also be investigated through a high-level committee.”
NEET UG 2024 Decision Reaction
Another user, Charanjeet Singh, expressed concerns about systemic issues and called for a thorough investigation: “The question is not that we got away by canceling the exam. The question is why the system was tampered with. Under which law 100% grace marks were given? SC should suspend NTA Chief. Which officers made mistakes, Or closed eyes, Full investigation should be ordered so that the real conspirators are caught.”
Dr. Ayush highlighted the issue of selective re-exams, suggesting it benefits certain interests: “✫ “When only 1563 #NEET aspirants will be having #ReNEET, paper leak this time will be NEAT! Those 1563 candidates are the scapegoats to be sacrificed to save the mafias who caused rank inflation of 50k+ #NEETUG2024 #NEETRow #NEET_परीक्षा #nta”
X User Pratosh argued that the re-test should apply to all candidates, criticizing the NTA’s response to the paper leak: “The Supreme Court has ordered a re-test for 1,563 students, but it should be for everyone. The NTA gave free grace marks without proper justification and failed to control a paper leak, causing over 10,000 rank inflation. The Patna police filed an FIR and informed the NTA, but the NTA took no action.”
Bhawesh suggested that the NTA’s actions were a deliberate attempt to suppress the larger issue of a paper leak: “This is the story of 1563 students deliberately by @NTA_Exams. It was created to suppress the issue of paper leak. There should be discussion on paper leak.”
David Sudikonda raised concerns about the court’s focus, highlighting abnormal patterns in the results: “Why the courts are focusing on superficial problem of giving grace marks... But what abt the paper leak and 60+ students getting AIR 1 and out of which 8 are from same exam center isn't this abnormal?”
ARPAN MAHAPATRA expressed skepticism about the number of students awarded grace marks: “What is the proof that only 1563 students were given grace marks. ..nta can't be trusted any more..they did not tell anyone before results that grace marks will he given...I think 20000 or 30000 students were given grace marks.. publish omr and score card publicly for all.”
Conclusion
The Supreme Court’s refusal to halt the NEET-UG 2024 counseling process, while addressing the issue of grace marks, has opened a Pandora’s box of criticism and demands for greater transparency and accountability from the NTA. As the debate rages on, many are calling for a broader investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding this year’s examination.
